When you mentioned that Mac OS X is processor/archecture bound, I have to disagree a little on that... Mac OS X is basically a very pretty looking UNIX.  Therefore, the Mac OS isn't nearly as archecture-bound as it was in the pre-OS X days.

And even back when they were, they still managed to switch from the Motorola 68000 series to the PPC - it took a lot of work, but it got done.

Switching OS X to a different archecture would not be nearly as difficult as the 68000-PPC switch was .
