Bishops and Morality

Letter to the Editor

I find the idea of Catholic Bishops endorsing the idea that those who approve of abortion aren’t fit to receive communion to be somewhat amusing. There’s an old saying – those without sin should cast the first stone. And – even though no one really holds to those standards – I really think that the Bishops should focus on the issue of priests having sex with children before they represent themselves as being moral enough to give communion – let alone decide who should receive it.

——-

It’s amazing the bishops who are against abortion yet silent on priests fucking children. I guess they haven’t figured out that fucking children adds to the need for abortion.

The whole ritual of communion is rather bizzare when you think about it. The pedifiles have these crackers which they claim is “The Body of Christ” and you’re supposed to eat this to get in heaven – and if you don’t eat it – God will punish you and burn you in Hell forever. What scares the hell out of me is that there’s people out there who actually believe this!

Marc, I agree. What is up with these guys in robes poking kids? It is truly amazing that a bunch of pasty white guys in robes can tell a world of women what they can and cannot do. And then to add insult to injury…they cannot partake in the dried piece of bread and grape juice. holy cow. sounds a bit like the rules the Muslims adhere to. Religious wackos running the world. The human imagination is a wonderful thing until we start imagining things like powerful deities that tell us what to do. They all need a psych ward to get rid of those troubling voices. Might stop the pedophilia as well.

At the last supper, Jesus was just trying to say “you are what you eat” and the whole thing has been seriously misunderstood for quite some time now.

I’m glad I could clear that up for you.

Um, that was from the Bible, and who ever said the people who wrote that were telling the truth and not just making it up off the top of their heads (probably best to leave that possibility open instead of assuming that it couldn’t be).

Marc, obviously, the neo-cons don’t care too much about this topic? What gives? Isn’t this an issue near and dear to their hearts? Aren’t they the true Christians? I guess they can only defend Bush and his idiocy…not children. Clear to me that they only want to hurt their perceived enemies and the enemy list does not include child molesters. Weird.

They don’t give a damn about regular people or children, unless they rich people or the siblings of rich and influential people I guess. Because the children are “inferior” I guess compared to protecting money pocketing CEOs screwing over all their employees who work harder than them.

Them “pro-life” people are shooting themselves in the foot by being so “anti-choice”. If they’d spend less time condemning people to heck and behaving badly next to abortion clinics, and would instead spend more time and money on contraceptives awareness and adoption programs, there would be fewer abortions taking place. Seems like they care more about showing off their misdirected “righteousness” than preventing abortions…

Their fanatical stubbornness will only push people away from taking their religion seriously, accelerating its demise. But that’s a good thing, no matter which side of the issue you take! I look forward to a time when abortion is an unthreatened human right, but at the same time there are far fewer unplanned pregnancies and much better adoption possibilities than there are now. I believe that this positive change can only be brought about by secular charities, not those overfunded cults that care more about pushing their agenda than truly helping people.

Marc,
The salvation through Jesus Christ is an offer and a free gift in the sense that Christ has already paid for all your sins. Whether to choose to accept that free gift or not is your choice. Now by partaking in the body of christ , you become an inheritor to the very authority of christ. Refusal to partake God is not punishing but judging based on the fruits of your life. If you are assured that you are sinless and holy there is no need of a saviour to pay for your sins. The essence of everyreligion is that only that mankind will receive the judgement according to deeds. The offer of christ is a free gift in this natural process

Wow…that is scary! So…if I do not take communion, I am not “the inheritor to the very authoriy of christ”. But, because George Bush can take communion means he is an inheritor and can do whatever he wants….or I should say, what Jesus wants which to Bush means killing many innocent living people? Is there a bibilical verse that backs up that statement?
What does your belief mean? I assume you are anti-war, anti-death penalty like Jesus was? He was compassionate and did not throw the first stone. Is that also your belief?

Wow. First off, is the endorsement of NO Communion to Pro-Abortionists. Perhaps looking into why the Catholic faith is against Abortion might shed some light. Simply, they consider it to be murder, especially when there are alternatives such as Adoption and Foster care (this is a viable solution for 95% of abortion cases). Communion is a sacrament that is intended to be taken seriously and with ‘grace’ intact. Grace intact means that u have a clear conscience (preferably going to confession for your sins before hand). Undoubtedly this is considered hogwash by many, but if you’re not Catholic, then why complain? And if u are Catholic, i dont think u will complain cuz u’ll understand what Communion is all about. As for Priests who abuse children, well every profession has people in it that abuse children (sexually, verbally and physically), but just like the Catholic priests, they are far and few between. If Catholics werent the focus of public scrutiny, u wouldnt see comments in the media and such about priest who are pedofiles, just as u dont see reports about Janitors or Pizza delivery guys who are pedofiles. Justice will be served and pedofiles will go to prison, just stop bashing the Catholic priests in general because of a few offenders that give the church a bad name.
