AAA-holes! I called Sept. '07 & rec’d a verbal quote for 2008 renewal on my new car & 2 new speeding tickets of $2K. Imagine my surprise when 4 mos. later I rec'd a $3K renewal bill. So I called, told them they were 50% over & was told that quotes were just an "approximate". Very funny. Also, they essentially told me that I was lying...said that there's no record of the quote call & no way a quote on next year's policy could be generated before the annual renewal statement was generated. Needless to say I cancelled 2008's renewal PDQ.
And that's not all...After letter acknowleging request to cancel arrived, I then later rec'd a check attached to a stub stating, "Cancellation Non Payment." Was told it was a default accounting code for non-renewals. Riiight.
Ironically, in Jan. '08, Mercury gave me the same coverages & rate quoted by AAA back in Sept. '07. Gotta Love It.

I agree that they were morons to cancel you without contacting you first. It would have been in their best interests if they had followed-up (and found out that the form was not even applicable anymore). I even think they should be required by law (if they aren't already) to make all reasonable efforts to notify the consumer before canceling the policy.

However, it is *absolutely* their business who you might be likely to lend your car to. The company has the right to know who they are insuring, even part of the time. For example, if her driving record was horrendous, and she borrowed your car some percentage of the time, shouldn't the company be allowed to raise your rates accordingly? If they don't even want to assume the risk of your roommate borrowing your car and crashing it, they are allowed to have you sign a form excluding her from driving it, and from the policy. Seems totally reasonable to me.

All you would have had to do was inform them that she was not living with you anymore, and you would not have had this problem.... despite their moron status. Maybe it's just as well though, since AAA sucks on so many fronts, and you are now rid of them.

But calling them Nazis? Oh come on, man.

Used the AAA tow service today to tow my car home, then later I noticed that the truck driver had stolen $3.50 in change from my car! Joke was on him though, it was all Canadian money! So he only really stole $3 or whatever it converts to. But next time I know to hide all my change before calling AAA.

I work at a chiropractic's office and was trying to get a claim's number for a patient, what a mess that was! The operator transferred me to someone who wasn't even sure of the adjuster's claims address. However, she did give me his phone number and when I try calling him, I got his voice mailing telling me to leave a message. When I try leaving a message, another recording came on saying that this person will not accept calls. It took me over half-an-hour to finally get what I needed and I was so frustrated. I don't think these people are properly trained, which is proof of their inadequacy.

Was rear-ended by a teen with AAA auto insurance. Three days later, and still my little smashed car sits, waiting on an 'adjuster' to say what he thinks AAA should pay. Say what?! I think my neck is really starting to hurt like hell...I'm getting my own estimate at my own body shop and showing the adjuster that when (and if) the moron ever shows up.
Each person I talked with at AAA either took forever to find the claim info, and if they did, looked at the wrong info. And I'm supposed to get a rental car -- but only when my car is in the shop. How the heck can I get it in the shop without an estimate or payment guarantee from AAA? I can't even use it - smashed trunk, broken tail-lights, and so on.
I am so glad I have Geico for my personal car insurance. AAA auto insurance sucks hairy teen teabags.

My family has had AAA Insurance for a couple of years in Missouri. My son had a rather large claim of about $4000 from lightening damage to television, computer & air conditioner. I have NEVER worked with an adjuster as nice and eager to work with as this one. I have worked in insurance for many years, and AAA's claim service is above & beyond ANY company I have worked with or for. One bad or good experience does not reflect the entire company for sure.

wow... i thought i was the only person with this issue! almost the exact same thing happened to me, but to take it a step further, the company that holds my loan slapped on a $1500 yearly insurance fee because AAA notified them and NOT ME that the insurance was cancelled.....>!!!!

I drive a tow truck and you don't want AAA anyway. They are the lowest of the low paying mororclubs and towers will leave AAA people to take a call that makes them money. That's why when you hear a story about someone sitting for hours and hours they are a AAA person. You want fast service? Call the towing company directly. Why pay the high AAA prices when you don't use it? We hear that all the time. "Had AAA for ten years and I'm finally using it". That's smart, you just paid 1000.00 for that 200.00 tow. Get roadside assistance on you insurance and call 911 to find a tow truck when you need one.
The people that we go pick up are always pissed at AAA. They must give IQ tests and hire from the bottom up. Their biggest concern is getting off the phone and passing the whole thing over to the towing company.

You should report this to your state insurance department. If you are in California the commissioner is Garamendi and he's the bane of insurers' existence (he and Eliot Spitzer).
