Letter to the Editor

Bush seems to believe that we are winning in Iraq and that troops are going to come home as a “return on success”. It is as if he believes that if he declares we are successful then that with change the reality that Iraq is a dismal failure. Believing something doesn’t make it true.

But why not try Bush’s trick with the federal budget? Bush should have added to his success speech that he’s going to meet with Congress to figure out what we’re going to do with the budget surplus. If we all believe the deficit is a surplus then it will be so.

So – anyone out there want to take any bets on if we are actually going to a real troop reduction in Iraq? And, for the record “reduction” means that there are less troops than we started with. That means a smaller number.
