Health Care Reform is about Values

Letter to the Editor

I saw a TV ad today against health care reform put on by a group called “Americans for Prosperity”. What’s right and wrong when it comes to health care reform depends on your values. If you put prosperity first then their position is correct. However if you put health care security ahead of making money then Americans for Prosperity is wrong. It all depends on whether you value profits of insurance companies or the health of this nation’s people. Who we are as Americans depends on what we value.

“Americans for Prosperity”: How appropriate. It’s a sad thing to witness, but it’s absolutely what defines us as Americans these days. We buy too much, we use too much, we eat too much, we want it all, and we have no desire to play nice and share. “Americans for Prosperity” is simply the pathetic by-product of our out-of-control consumerism and need to horde everything within our sweaty little grasp. What I find interesting is the politics of convenience from the Right. They delusionally rant up and down about the so-called ‘death panels’, but would have those same grandmothers refused for lack of adequate health insurance. Medicare is okay, but the President’s plan is ‘socialism’. Sorry, Repubs. You’ve lost me there. Do us all a favor and try reading a book for once in your sorry lives … no, not Ann Coultier or Limbaugh.

Rachel Maddow has documented Americans for Prosperity as another of the many fake grassroots groups funded by corporate money and fabricated by right wing PR firms.
