We live in a time where there are thousands of religions that people choose to believe in. But of all these religions where do you go if you are seeking the Truth? How would someone discern the one true religion, if there is one, and objectively distinguish it from all the other religions? Or is there no real Truth and whatever someone chooses to believe is just as valid as what someone else chooses to believe?
The answer might be simpler than you think but not the answer most people would expect. What is the definition of capital T Truth? Truth is that which is objectively real. It’s the stuff that doesn’t go away when you stop believing in it. Truth comes from the reality based world which is a world view that we all exist in the same objective real world. That the pursuit of Truth is the understanding of reality the way reality really is. Reality provides the objective measuring stick that determines the difference between what is true and what is false. If not for reality there would be no true or false. There would only be different beliefs. If all beliefs are equal then universal Truth goes away.
So Truth doesn’t come from the religious world where one is expected to put belief first, but rather from the scientific world where Truth is that which is discovered through scientific disciplines to be true. One can not pursue the Truth without putting reality ahead of choosing to believe in something. For those who seek the Truth science is the new scripture. Science may very well be religion 2.0 where the religious world starts to incorporate reality into their pursuit of Truth.
The real world is an amazing place. Learning to live in right relationship to reality is a sacred life choice. Our existence here is limited. Shouldn’t we spend our days at least trying to know what the Truth really is?
