I, blogger Marc Perkel, founder of the Church of Reality, am extending an open offer to publish recorded phone calls of members of Congress. I’m especially interested in publishing the personal phone calls of members of Congress who voted for giving immunity to telecoms who were illegally spying on Americans. If they can spy on us then let us spy on them.

Additionally I am looking for personal information on members of Congress regarding their personal credit card spending. Since Congress is now trying to require that credit card companies turn over your purchase records to the government I think it’s time that we spy on them to see where members of Congress are spending their personal money.

This sort of spying is outrageous. I am in stunned disbelief that members of Congress would even consider such a law. It is as if they are wiping their asses with the Bill of Rights. I don’t know any other way to get their attention other than having it happen to them so they can know what it’s like to be spied on. So even if this is illegal sometime it is necessary to break the law in order to restore the law. If they are going to let the telecoms to break the law then why can’t we do it?

When the president breaks the law he should be impeached rather than having Congress retroactively bless his illegal acts. This decision sends a message to future presidents that if you break the law then Congress will cover up for you. It also sends a message to big corporations that if the President and members of Congress asks them to conspire with them to break the law that they will receive immunity. This encourages corporations to break the law and them rewards law breaking.

Besides covering up the wrongdoing of the President it also covers up the wrongdoing of members of Congress who knew Bush was breaking the law and conspired with him through their silence. These members are complicit in acts of treason to the Constitution and they are just protecting their own asses in this immunity bill.

If you have the personal cell phone numbers of members of Congress please forward them to me so that we can contact them directly about what we think about them selling out our freedoms.

Furthermore Congress is working on a new bill requiring credit card companies to turn over your purchasing records to the government. So in order to make Congress feel our pain I’m asking The People to dig through the trash of members of Congress and publish their credit card information.

I think they should pass a law requiring anyone who is going to run for Congress pass a written test to see if they actually read and understand what the Constitution says. How can they swear to uphold the Constitution if they haven’t even read it?

As the founder of and member of the Church of Reality I’m claiming a religious exemption from federal law on the basis of our sacred religious principles under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Government spying on our church members violates our Sacred Principle of Personal Privacy and under our Principle of Activism we have to take a stand on this issue.

People assume that there is going to be a 2008 election where Republicans will lose big time and Hillary will become president. But that may not be what happens. There may not be a 2008 election at all.

Bush has been issuing directives to set up martial law and a presidential dictatorship in the case of some national emergency where he will replace all of government, and he is trying to create a war with Iran. It looks pretty obvious where this is going.

With the Democrats being reliably stupid enough to fall for Bush’s ploys over and over again when Bush make his move the Democrats will be useless in stopping him. In fact the Democrats will likely join him as they did when they voted to authorize the war and continually vote to keep funding the war. But the Republicans aren’t going to just let the Democrats win in free and fair elections. They have a plan and the plan is to take over America.

With the rules for martial law in place all we need is an even to trigger a national emergency. What that will be is anyone’s guess but it will involve war with Iran and because of the war Bush will take over the government and suspend the Constitution and elections. The suspension will be promoted as temporary until absolute power is in place. At that point America will become the biggest threat to world peace.

Some of you may say, “Perkel, you are really paranoid. No way is that going to happen.” My response is, I hope you are right. However I still think that the risks of something like this are high enough that being paranoid is a healthy thing to do. As they say, “Just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean that they aren’t out to get you.”

Sometimes exposing a plot before it happens is the best way to keep it from happening so I think it is prudent to raise the possibility and spread the paranoia and to be proven wrong. After all, in the Bush administration those who are paranoid are being proven right. When Congress voted in 2002 to authorize the war in Iraq they say they never thought Bush would abuse his power the way he did. But at the time I was absolutely sure that he would and I joined 150,000 other paranoid protesters in San Francisco who were also sure that he would.

There is no doubt in my mind at all that the Bush administration is contemplating this move. My opinion is that they have not reached consensus yet and that a number of events have yet to occur before the plan goes into effect. I believe that bringing attention to this possibility is a good way to start undermining their plan so that it never happens.

Sometimes politics is like diverting an asteroid from hitting the Earth. If you know the asteroid is heading our way and will collide with the planet and you deal with it far enough in advance you can push it out of the way easily. However if you wait to long it will be too close and nothing can stop it. I see the political asteroid coming but it is so far away that it can only be seem by us paranoid people. so I am calling on other paranoid people to join me in pushing it out of the way.

An interesting thing about being paranoid is that we don’t know how many plots were prevented by some paranoid person exposing them. And we will may never know. But better to be called a nut case and survive and to sit back and let Bush do it to us over and over again.

This is not a time when Democrats can afford to have weak and stupid leaders who aren’t as powerful in the majority as the Republicans are in the minority. The only thing that the Senate managed to pass was a resolution condemning MoveOn.org for telling the truth. That is pathetic beyond belief. It is as if the Democrats are trying to out-stupid Bush, and if that is their goal they are succeeding!

I am calling on people to pressure the Democrats to replace Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed with real leaders. We need people like John Murtha should lead the House and <strike>Jim Web</strike> (sorry – he voted to condemn MoveOn) or Russ Feingold to lead the Senate. Until the Democrats select real leadership I’m giving all my political money to MoveOn.org. I’m asking everyone who is against the war to do the same. Write MoveOn.org and ask them to run ads calling for Democrats to change leadership. If we can’t make Democrats see the light then we will make them feel the heat!

Bush seems to believe that we are winning in Iraq and that troops are going to come home as a “return on success”. It is as if he believes that if he declares we are successful then that with change the reality that Iraq is a dismal failure. Believing something doesn’t make it true.

But why not try Bush’s trick with the federal budget? Bush should have added to his success speech that he’s going to meet with Congress to figure out what we’re going to do with the budget surplus. If we all believe the deficit is a surplus then it will be so.

—-

So – anyone out there want to take any bets on if we are actually going to a real troop reduction in Iraq? And, for the record “reduction” means that there are less troops than we started with. That means a smaller number.

The Republican’s definition of a troop cut in Iraq is to increase the number of troops and promise to lower the troop levels to the point where they started, and then not keep the promise. Republicans define success as the promise to get down to the same level a year from now as we were a year ago. It will be interesting to see what they are saying a year from now when they are trying to get reelected.

George Bush says that we’re doing great in Iraq, we’re “kicking ass” and we’re winning the war. The troops are going to start coming home in July next year. The problem is that if you believe Bush he’s only going to get us back down to where the surge was before the surge started. And that’s his definition of “progress”? Does anyone really believe that Bush going to bring any troops home? Are we still in the last throws of the insurgency? It’s only been 4 years since “mission accomplished”.

It seems that the real mission for the troops in Iraq is to fight and die so Bush can run out the clock on his presidency. After he retires, and he’s replenishing the ol’ coffers”, he can come back and say, “It wasn’t my fault! Hillary did it!”

They say that the Democrats don’t have the votes to stop the war but that isn’t true. Bush is going to come to Congress wanting another 50 billion dollars. Democrats have the votes to not give Bush any more money. If you fund the war you are supporting the war. I’m tired of funding the politicians who are funding the war so I refuse to give money to politicians of either party who keep voting for the war.

This week they are going to lie to us again and tell us that we’re winning. We are not winning because to win we have to defeat the people who we are trying to liberate. After 5 years we are told over and over that we are almost there when the reality is that it keeps getting worse and worse. The time has come to shut it down and get out of there. If you really want to stop the war then cut off the money.

It’s interesting that what’s coming out of the Scooter Libby trial We’re seeing how the Bush administration lied to us about the reasons for the war with Iraq. It was a deliberate fabrication. At the same time this is coming out Bush is fabricating a new war with Iran. The militias are now the “Iranian backed militias”. All of a sudden the Iranians are behind everything. Bush is speaking the language of war and is actively justifying an upcoming attack on Iran. Does anyone really expect the public to believe him this time? It’s time for Bush to step down.

LONDON (AFP) – An Al-Qaeda terror suspect captured by the United States, who gave evidence of links between Iraq and the terror network, confessed after being tortured, a journalist told the BBC.

Iban al Shakh al Libby told intelligence agents that he was close to Al-Qaeda leaders Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri and “understood an awful lot about the inner workings of Al-Qaeda,” former FBI agent Jack Clonan told the broadcaster.

Libby was tortured in an Egyptian prison, according to Stephen Grey, the author of the newly-released book “Ghost Plane” who investigated the secret US Central Intelligence Agency ( CIA) prisons that housed terror suspects around the world.

US President George W. Bush confirmed the existence of the network of CIA holding facilities overseas during a September 6 speech defending controversial US interrogation practices.

Libby was apparently taken to Cairo, Clonan told the broadcaster, after being captured in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

“He (Libby) claims he was tortured in jail and that would be routine in Egyptian prisons,” Grey said.

“What he claimed most significantly was a connection between … Al-Qaeda and the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein. This intelligence report made it all the way to the top, and was used by (former US secretary of state) Colin Powell as a key piece of justification … for invading Iraq,” he told the broadcaster.

Powell claimed in a UN Security Council meeting in February 2003, weeks before a US-led coalition invaded Iraq, that the country under Saddam Hussein had provided weapons training to Al-Qaeda, saying he could “trace the story of a senior terrorist operative”, whom Grey alleges is Libby.

“At the time, the caveats to say this intelligence was extracted under torture were not provided,” Grey said.

Grey said that, after being held in Egypt, Libby was transferred to a secret CIA facility in Bagram, just north of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul. The journalist said he had also met other people held in that facility who describe the torture that Libby faced at the CIA facility.

Since then, “he disappeared”, Grey said.

“Like hundreds of other people arrested after September 11, he’s vanished into a sort of netherworld of prisons where astonishingly, President Bush now says the prisons have emptied.
