Letter to the Editor
With hurricane Gustav heading to New Orleans it raises the question about which candidates voted for and against preparing the gulf coast states.Obama supportedĀ and McCain opposed legislation to fund levees and flood control programs. McCain called the funding pork. The bill passed Congress but was vetoed by Bush. However Congress overturn Bush’s veto and passed the bill.
Obama also voted for and McCain along with every Republican voted against forming a commission to investigate the levee failures. Disasters will always come but true leaders plan ahead and are prepared. Only fools ignore the lessons of the past and refuse to learn from the last disaster to prepare for the next disaster.
So as the Republicans gather for their big convention party America should keep in mind that judgment counts. And even though McCain is singing a new tune this election season what counts is how he voted. McCain’s bad judgment shows that he is just a fool and is not ready to lead America into the future.
