One conservative talk show host says - yes!
"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."
Rush Limbaugh - on his short-lived television show on Oct. 5, 1995.

And let's not forget that many of the problems are CAUSED by the fact that the drugs are illegal - as in gangs & "criminals" are the only ones selling product that people want. And because of this, there are turf wars over territory. And also the fact that since it is illegal, there is no regulation - which means no standards for things like potency or maximum doses. You really have no way of knowing what you are getting unless you make it yourself.
The best way to kill an industry is not to make it illegal, but to make it legal with lots of government involvment, regulation and taxation.
