Letter to the Editor
I've always believed that it's not what you say that matters - it's what you do. Although the Catholic Church claims to be against priests raping children their actions tell a different tale. Archbishop Bernard Law who covered up the raping of children by priests in Boston has now been transfered to the Vatican. This sends a message that the Catholic Church is more interested in protecting the careers of the clergy that protecting Catholic children from being raped by priests.
Although the Church gives lip service saying that priests should not have sex with children - what they are doing speaks louder than what they are saying. So when the church says that some politicians aren't fit to take communion because of their stance on abortion - I say that the Catholic Church isn't fit to give communion based on their stance on allowing priests to have sex with children. Any religion that allows child rape has no moral authority to take a stand on anything.
If you're looking for a new religion try the Church of Reality - a religion based on believing in everything that's real.
Bull's eye! The church is not guilty of moving this guy AFTER they found out about the abuses, they KNEW he was doing this LONG BEFORE they moved him. After being raised Catholic for 40 years, I find myself teaching my children more about Christianity, and less about Catholicism. The Catholic church blew it (no pun intended).
Posted by: tomocius at May 29, 2004 01:18 PMThe parables of JESUS and the word of GOD have been perverted (pun intended) since the Romans adopted Christianity to subdue Christian sepratist movements that threatend the Roman Empire. Religon is much like politics- a human element is involved. Humans have been given the GOD given gift of reason and not all choose to use their gift (one of many GOD given gifts) for the purposes that GOD intended. We all must prey ( if you do (56% Protestant, 28% Roman Catholic, 2% Jewish in the USA)) for those whose souls are crooked. We must prey for those who Follow the teachings of JESUS too, because JESUS teaches us to love each other regardless. I even pray for the Islamofascists, who are similiar to many members of "THE CHURCH" in the hypocrisy that governs them. Not all member of the church are hypocrites either. Neither are all Muslims as Islam is a just religon (closley related to Judaism and Christianity - read the book it's quite neat).
Posted by: Rob at May 29, 2004 08:41 PMRob, regarding your statement:
"We all must prey ( if you do (56% Protestant, 28% Roman Catholic, 2% Jewish in the USA)) for those whose souls are crooked. We must prey for those who Follow the teachings of JESUS too, because JESUS teaches us to love each other regardless.
I think you made a little Freudian slip... the definition of the word 'prey' is
As a noun:
1. An animal hunted or caught for food; quarry.
2. One that is defenseless, especially in the face of attack; a victim.
3. The act or practice of preying.
As a verb as you have used it:
1. To hunt, catch, or eat as prey: Owls prey on mice.
2. To victimize or make a profit at someone else's expense.
3. To plunder or pillage.
4. To exert a baneful or injurious effect: Remorse preyed on his mind.
I'm sure you meant 'Pray'. 'Preying' rather than 'Praying' is precisely the problem.
Yeah, Pete I guess you're right. perhaps I should get out the "Franklin speller"...
Posted by: Rob at June 1, 2004 10:44 AMIt is very important to use precise language when criticizing other people, otherwise you can end up looking very foolish.
The Catholic Church has never "endorsed" child rape as far as i know. The actions you allude to in your post do not constitute an endorsement.

One could make a case that they have "condoned" child rape. This might be the word you meant to use because the actions you allude to in your post would indicate an organization that tolerates, overlooks, forgives, etc. child rape.

Do you know what this word means?

Hey Mance, I think history proves that JESUS was around before the Romans adopted Christianity and created the vatican. So logically the church is affiliated with Catholicism, but should not be considered the sole speaker for Catholics around the world [sigh] because JESUS was around before the church. I hope my repetition didn't confuse you.
Posted by: Rob at June 5, 2004 11:48 AMSo tell me if its a Catholic tradition to molest young boys. If it's not, how does this sit with you morally?
Posted by: Rob at June 5, 2004 03:32 PMI doubt that the Pope is in full control of THE CHURCH anyways. While he is mentally (for all we know) "there", he is physically limited and it is quite possible that things happen in THE CHURCH behind his back. Remember that Lucifer was a "high-ranking Lieutenant" before he fell from GOD's favor. If it is possible for an angel to defile god, than it is also possible for a Priest, Cardinal, or Bishop to go against the teachings of THE CHURCH.
