COLUMBUS, Ohio June 15, 2004 — Like thousands of fellow Somalis leaving behind brutal clan warfare, Nuradin Abdi settled in this city known for relatively mild weather, plentiful jobs and, in recent years, an abundance of shopping malls.
Just months after the government granted Abdi asylum, however, federal authorities say he was plotting to blow up one of those malls, exactly the type of target some feared would be next on terrorists' lists. Attorney General John Ashcroft said charges revealed Monday against Abdi serve as a reminder that al-Qaida is determined "to hit the United States and hit us hard."
But the portrait painted of Abdi by the government is in sharp contrast to the one offered by his family, who insist he is innocent and describe a man who hated terrorists.
Abdi, who operated a small cell phone business, loved his new freedoms and never spoke out against the U.S. government, said his brother Mohamed AbdiKarani, 17. Abdi has a son and daughter and his wife is pregnant.
"He loved it here. He never had as much freedom. He said it's good to raise his kids here," AbdiKarani said. "He really hated terrorists. You know how (President) Bush hates terrorists? I think he hates them more."
Abdi is accused of conspiring with convicted al-Qaida operative Iyman Faris a former Columbus truck driver who sought to sabotage the Brooklyn Bridge to bomb a mall in the area, though the FBI said no specific mall was targeted.
Abdi, 32, was arrested at his apartment Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving when malls across America were crowded with shoppers. He was held at first on immigration violations, authorities said.
Charges in the four-count indictment include providing material support to al-Qaida, conspiracy to provide material support and document fraud. If convicted on all charges, Abdi could be sentenced to up to 80 years in prison and fined $1 million.
The FBI has warned al-Qaida might shift away from trying to hit tightly guarded installations, such as government buildings or nuclear plants, to more vulnerable targets such as malls, apartment buildings or hotels.
Court papers filed by the government allege that a plot dated to March 2000 when Abdi returned from a terrorist training camp in Ethiopia to join Faris in Columbus.

Mark is completely unobjective in his complaints. Rest assured that anything that the Bush administration does or doesn't do will always get the worst possible spin in Mark's eyes.
This site's purpose is to deliver as much negative spin and conjecture as possible against Bush and Republicans. Note how his site has bashed all republicans for years.
At least he's honest enough to call himself a church - too bad he thinks it's associated with reality.
It's a shame that Mark can't find positives about Kerry to talk about - the site (Might) then serve a useful purpose.

All along they were saying Iraq was the next logical step because we wanted to fight terrorists BEFORE they come here (and there is all kinds of evidence that Iraq does have Al Queda ties). That's what's amazing to me about all of these bleeding-hearts - it will take another 3,500 people to lose their lives on our soil to wake them up again.
Has the Bush administration made mistakes, yes. Have the done everything perfect, no. But I have one question for you...
If you were a terrorist, who would you vote for?

As for lying ... I was taught it was wrong to lie. My parents never told me one was bad and one was good. I am teaching my kids the same. BUT, if I were forced to accept a lie, the big one is easier to accept. If you are going to lie, lie about something BIG, and IMPORTANT. NEVER lie about something that does not matter.
Lying in a sexual harrassment case while trying to establish the acts of a rapist is not the same as lying to the American people about a beejay.
In the movie THIEF James Cann asked Willie Nelson if he should tell the truth about his past to his fiance. Willie Nelson said, "Lie to no one because if you love them the lie will hurt them when they find out. And if you don't love them, who the fuck are they that you have to lie to them."

Instead they treat it like a smoking gun.
Johnson's jumpsuit is, again, different from those used at Abu Ghraib, and different from Berg's as well.
What this suggests to me is that the terrorists have been putting their American hostages in orange jumpsuits as a symbol. After all, the Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib are dressed in orange jumpsuits and have been treated like they were less than human, and it was only after the story of what was going on at Abu Ghraib broke that they started doing this.

I fail to see ANY connection in the Clinton sex scandle and Bush's reasoning for making our country a "first strike" power. Eveyone loves to bring up Clintons lie to the grand jury, interestingly enough, the grand jury had no business in asking Clinton anything about his sexual life, this is America and anybody over 21 has the right to have consensual sex with anybody 21 they want to, whether another agrees with it or not, none of their business. The question should never have been asked and Clinton should have said none of your business. Enough said about that.
This crap about torture..Governments have been extracting information from unwilling people for ever, using all kinds of tactics, drugs and pain are the most common ways. Not that any reasonable person would like to hear about this sort of thing, its been going on since the beginning of time. I am appauled at the fact that any of this stuff was photographed. It is unbelievable to me that these photos were allowed to be taken. I don't consider making people lye naked, or lead around on leashes by women, or even made to lye on top of each other as torture. Its a technique, distasteful as it may be, it's not torture. ( ripping finger nails off, slicing skin with knives, burning holes in ones body etc is torture) Just ask some of our Vietnam vets about torture.. Who the hell allowed pictures to be taken, who gave the orders to our troops to do these things, those who give the orders are the ones at fault, not the troops..Deep down inside we know where the orders came from..therfore the public will never know for sure. Coverup?? ofcourse..
I look at all the trouble in all the arab lands as being religious fanaticism. Governments run by religion..Those people are living in the dark ages because of their religion. Untill they install governments that believe in seperation of church and state they will always be the way they are, crazy, irrational, and dangerious.
The attack on these assholes in Afganistan was a reasonable response the the attack on our county, the attack on Iraq was one of the worst mistakes our country has made in its entire history. Bush has made the USA a first strike, aggresive county. Something I was taught by my father as being unthinkable. The usa would never strike a country first, not russia not anybody..I can see that this has changed, a lost value that has damaged our countrys principals and what it means to be an american. I am disgusted with all of this.
The fact that the Iraqi "militia" is killing their own people by scores everyday is enough for me to realize that these people are not worth one US solders death. I think we should just leave, let them kill themselves all over again. It is hardly our business to get involved in civil war over there. We are installing religious fanatics back into power there, will the new "constitution of iraq" have built in the seperation of church and state? Likely no, which to me means same shit, different time. Our "friends" the Saudi's teach their children in school how the christion world is evil, therfore western countries are evil, is it any surprise with that kind of education that these people are growing up hating people? Hell no, again religious fanatics at work again.
I end this longwinded post with one thing, Thank God our forefathers recognized the importance of seperation of church and state, it is because of this ideal that we are as tollerant, and free as we are today.
I love my country, but hate the situation or leadership has put us in. We need to vote our idiot president out of office, and return to the ideals that made us strong and our way of life reveered by many.

Interesting observations. What scares me is that the current Bush administraton seems to be bluring the line themselves between State and Church more each and everyday. If this trend continues, the Bush White House alliance with the far right and far rights partnership with Christian fundamentalism, in a generation America could be a Christian theocracy itself!
