Letter to the Editor
So now we discover that 350 tons of explosives in Iraq - strong enough to detonate a nuclear weapon - have vanished. These explosives were in our control before the war - but now because of the war the terrorist have it. The big question here is - which is worse? Is it worse that Bush allowed terrorists to steal 350 tons of high explosives? Or - is it worse that the Bush administration didn't even know these explosives were missing? It makes you wonder what other weapons and explosives are missing that Bush doesn't even know about. Bush is incompetent - clueless. I'm voting for Kerry because he's at least smart enough to keep track of what's missing.
I believe I read this evening in the New York Times that the Bush Administration knew six months ago that 370 tons of sophisticated weaponry (pardon my ignorance) was missing but of course as usual, they effectively kept this information from the public. Oh shucks! I guess sometimes these little tidbits of sweetness just manage to leak out though in the end huh?
If we don't unseat this incompetent mental case our democracy is going to suffer irreparable damage. I consider this administration to be a rogue regime. A hideous miscarriage of justice was wrought upon us by an anti-democratic Supreme Court during Election 2000. Had it not been for their unscrupulous intervention we might not have had to find ourselves in this ominous politcal predicament. I just can't believe that the USA has slipped to this level. It is truly embarassing that our nation appears completely out of touch with reality and worse yet, out of control. How can anyone vote for this insufferable boob???? Are they in a coma or something worse?
Posted by: Hope at October 25, 2004 11:40 PMIt goes to show what a screwed up country it really is; you can destroy an entire nation such as Iraq and get away with it, but if you get a blow job from a willing colleague you risk impeachment! It's all beyond comprehension.
I guess the 60's chanting of "make love not war" fell on half-deaf ears; they interpreted it as "make war not love"!.
Marious I think you are right. This nation is basically screwed up!All that propaganda they taught us in grade school was just that - propaganda about how great this nation is and it isn't in reality. We just can't for some reason shake the conservative right wing here can we? They never change do they? The same nuts who kept the cold war going and had us ducking for cover under our desks due to the air raid sirens are the same group who just can't get enough of Bush! Those that just couldn't get enough of "Tricky Dick" are the same Swift Boat Vet bozos of this election who slammed Kerry's Vietnam record aren't they? I guess that is why they call them conservatives because they are always trying to conserve the tons of tons of bullcrap that they cherish and hand down from generation to generation. I'm about ready to give it up here.
I don't think there is any hope for America considering how viciuos and amoral conservatives truly are in this country! No wonder we are the laughing stock of the world. Who wouldn't laugh at a country that refuses to face a changing world!
Posted by: Hope at October 26, 2004 11:49 AMSo, now that the cover has been blown off on this "october suprise", it just goes to show how you liberals jump at the slightest sign of American imcompetance. You should be ashamed, and retract. The explosives were gone before we got there, this is one more example of how the United Nations is trying to influence the election.
Posted by: chris at October 26, 2004 12:54 PMchris please dont talk, october suprise?, so your saying that instead of showing our countries weekness to our leaders we should just let this country go to hell? Every article I have read about said that the explosives were there, they were ours, and then they just got up on there own 2 feet and left. The UN has nothing to do with this, since the UN has only about 1% to do with Iraq War right now.
Posted by: Joshua Gillogly at October 26, 2004 01:43 PMI read in the paper yesterday that some nitwit woman from Iowa said that she was voting for Bush because 'he believes in God'.... As if Kerry doesn't.
And maybe the explosives are in God's hands...
I wish I had her contact info so I could ask her if she was voting for the leader of a country or the leader of a church.
The older I get, the more I believe that, on average (I'm sure there are a few exceptions), a person's religious fervour is inversely proportional to their ability to think.
Posted by: Peter Stern at October 26, 2004 02:32 PMChris you just said yourself in your statement "at the slightest sign of American incompetence". So Why should we RETRACT our dissenting voices when we see obvious evidence of GROSS mismanagement, particularly when that GROSS mismanagement and INCOMPETENCE comes from a leader who is hellbent on keeping highly pertinent information from the electorate? How can we make informed decisions if we only receive "spin".
You should be ashamed for allowing yourself to be hoodwinked by people who are explictly and implicitly keeping much needed facts from YOU! RETRACT? NO! You Chris - Make CONTACT with the FACTS!
Perhaps you are ashamed of the First Amendment? Did you ever hear of "Live free or die"? I'll whisper a few words through the ethers to our buried patriots of the Revolutionary War, "Retract, retract, your actions are shameful, you are going to wake up the ire of King George!"
MILLIONS have died to keep us free to dissent so don't ever tell an American who loves her country or anyone else who is a liberal who loves their country just as much as you do to RETRACT or be ASHAMED for their right to DISSENT!
That kind of rhetoric doesn't work around here Chris.
Posted by: Hope at October 26, 2004 04:11 PMWait a minute, now he had weapons? Which is it, either he had weapons or he did not have weapons. It cannot be both. And Bush is incompetent? There are others who are special kind of stupid.
