Nothing changes. We are still losing the war in Iraq, we are still bankrupting the country, we still have a moron in charge, and we are still heading in the wrong direction.
Well when over 50% of republicans vote on "morals" what do you expect? The whole gay marriage ban was the October surprise that helped bring out all the "deeply religious" people who voted on theocratical issues and nothing else. This is where I start to believe that conservatives are right and not everyone should be able to vote. Obviously, if people can only think to themselves, "I can't stand me them homosexuals" instead of seeing a larger picture of humanity, they have very little rights in my mind.
I guess a government by the people and for the people is no longer independent of religion. Welcome to Jesusland.
Posted by: M.Wills at November 7, 2004 04:04 PMThe whole gay marriage ban issue was not an "October Surprise", as it's nothing new and the Bush administration has been pushing for it since Day One. Maybe it's a "November 2nd Surprise" in that so many people voted for Bush based on that issue. It's not like the religious right were going to vote for Kerry, anyway, so that shouldn't come as a surprise.
Whether we agree with their reasoning or not, there are many reasons one would vote for Bush over Kerry other than being duped, stupid or "sheep". Many undecided voters are aware of the mistakes, lies and corruption of the Bush administration, but felt that Bush was still - at this time - a better choice than Kerry. "At this time" being the operative phrase here.
Coming from Massachusetts didn't help Kerry either. Not that that's Kerry's fault, but if the Democrats put up a candidate from the Midwest or South, they'll be able to pick up more of those states (and probably won't lose too many states from the East and West Coast).
Posted by: MadBlue at November 7, 2004 11:34 PMWills, you cannot say that 50% of Republicans voted for morals. The statement is nearly idiotic. In Illnois Bush got far more votes than Alan Keyes. Kills that argument. What AMERICANS voted for first was their security. When we were attacked on the prior administration, each and everytime Clinton said that he would find who did this and bring them to justice. OJ is closer to finding his wife's killer than Clinton ever got to finding a suspect in an attack on US interest, and OJ is only looking on golf courses. However, when we were attacked under this adminstration Bush said he would find the people responsible and bring them to justice. He added that if you aided these terrorist you would be dealt with. The Democrats do not have the testicular fortitude to handle such problems. And America knows it.
Posted by: tomocius at November 8, 2004 06:00 AMThe Democratic party would best be served by nominating someone from the South. The last Mass. liberal to be elected was JFK.
As far as the whole "gay marriage" thing, I think Kerry did his best to distance himself from the gay special interest groups. I guess the GWB team thwarted him at it.
It is a sad state of affairs that so many people consider this an important issue. I do; however, think that not everyone who is for a marriage protection act is a homophobe.
I just think that the very libreal members of the Democaratic party are pushing this stuff too hard and fast on the conservative voters in this country.
In many ways, this is like the race fight in America. Voters are at the "hearts and minds" stage of this issue. They don't need anyone telling them "I am gay and you HAVE to accept it" Fact is, the only thing I have to do is not voilate anyone's civil rights.
If gay marraige is such a non-issue, then why fight for it as well.
Posted by: DougK at November 8, 2004 11:15 AMtomocius, you're wrong about the Clinton thing. That's another myth perpetuated by the right wingers.

You also neglected to mention that Bush has failed to find OBL to date.

Posted by: Charlie at November 9, 2004 06:44 PMHow could people be so ignorant. So you like that Bush attacked Iraq? Did you get your revenge? Are you heppy now? This president doesn't know what a fuck he is doing. Do you smell depresion in the air? There is possibility that it might happen. For once tell me what you see in Bush.Is he somekind of Messiah? Is he the smartest person in the world? Does he make the right choices? Does he lie? answer these questions and tell me what people see in him. I only see a bag of shit standing infront of me trying to lie to me.
