Letter to the Editor
Sixty years ago was one of the darkest days in the history of the human race. It was then that America exploded an atomic weapon over Hiroshima and a few days later Nagasaki killing 300,000 civilians. At the time some scientists worried that exploding an atomic weapon might ignite the atmosphere turning this planet into a sun and destroying all life on Earth. Fortunately they were wrong, but taking that risk was humanities most chilling experiment.
In 1945 then President Truman could have demonstrated the power of the bomb by targeting an uninhabited area, something that he considered and rejected. He decided instead to target highly populated cities to demonstrate the full killing power of this weapon against men, women, and children.
We now have weapons that are hundreds of times as powerful as those two bombs and over 20 nations now have the bomb. To posses such a weapon is a curse because we now have the ultimate responsibility to never never never use these weapons under any conditions whatsoever. I want to say to the world that as an American I am deeply ashamed of what this country did and the terrible legacy we left behind. The sins of our past shall live on as long as anyone possesses nuclear weapons. To have an atomic weapon is a sin against the human race.

Those unfortunate enough to live through the initial blast all crawled towards the nearest water they could submerge their charred, blackened bodies in.People,in their desperation, wound up stacked on top of each other,drowning those on the bottom.The skies turned dark as a radioactive rain began to fall the color of tar.Those who drank it became sick,their hair and teeth falling out within a few days.The horror was breath taking.Never again.
Realistically, we are Universe being aware of itself. This is observable and scientifically provable to any extent anyone wants to take it.
E=MCsquared means it's all energy, and energy cannot be created nor destroyed. This means that the life/death dicotomy is only an illusion caused by biological systems. It means objectively that there is no such thing as death for what we really are. However, in understanding that, one must also realize that what we consider 'us' is also an illusion, more like a computer program than anything eternal. When we transform into disolute chemicals, the ego utterly disappears, like a computer program when the power goes off.
Nothing is lost however, for what we really are is not destroyable.
That is reality, not conjecture or 'faith' or anything purely conceptual. It is easily observable and anyone can observe it, anytime, anywhere. They just have to oay attention and not have their minds obscuring good data with some fantisy belief system.
