TV evangelist Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition and the 700 Club, is calling for Bush to assassinate democratically elected Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez stating, "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
I find it disturbing that a pro-life Christian leader who supposedly believes in "Thou shalt not kill" would be so comfortable advocating murder for oil. This is a man who supposedly has the spirit of Jesus Christ in his heart and a role model for Christian morality and politics. Is this the way a spirit filled Christian acts? If so, I will have no part of it. People like Pat Robertson make me thank God I'm an Atheist.
Posted by marc at August 23, 2005 11:49 AMThe truth is that Pat Robertson has just joined a new club of people who call themselves servants to God but are in reality are poor excuses for human beings. When you have that kind of say in the media, it gives you much power to change the world for the better, to leave it in better shape than when you inherited it. Instead, Pat has joined the likes of George Bush, Zawahiri, and Osama bin Laden, etc (if indeed the latter two are guilty with a fraction of what they are charged with). By calling for mass killings and assassinations of rulers and invasions of sovereign states, they spit on the doctrines they claim to follow, and put their brothers and sisters in faith to shame.
My faith prohibits for me getting drunk, using offensive language, slacking off at work, lying, stealing, and cheating in school; if it wasn't for my faith, I would surely do much of these things, as they are surely considered a norm here in America. But I am not a hypocrite, and so while ones such as these manipulate others through their religion, my faith makes me a much better person.
My religion works for me. If it doesn't suit you, and you will never change in who you are, then I will just have to agree, "Thank God an athiest."
