This story about the passenger getting shot today just doesn't add up. You have a guy who they say claimed he had a bomb but his wife was shouting he was just off his meds. I don't believe that even if he was shouting he had a bomb that anyone with any common sense, let alone training would believe it. He wasn't even on the plane when he was shot so I'm just not buying this story.
One thing that you will see in 100% of shootings by police is that any time someone is shot they always claim that the killed person did something aggressive that justified the shooting. In this case to justify the shooting there has to be a claim there was a bomb and that there was reason to believe that he was going to detonate it. It is a given that no matter what really happened that the story would have been the same.
So as I'm watching them blow up luggage on the tarmac when clearly they already knew at that point that they totally fucked up, what I see is at least theatrics and at worse the destruction of evidence.
My opinion is that what is most likely the case is that this guy mouthed off and they decided to teach him a lesson because they knew they could get away with it.
Let's see if they find any passengers who actually heard the bomb threat other than the cops. It wouldn't surprise me if they made that up.
I don't trust police and I know how they lie. Having been kidnapped 3 times by the police I don't have a very high opinion of their honesty. I don't want to sound like I don't appreciate them because most cops are good public servants. But when cops do bad things they all come together and cover up for the bad cop every time. And in this case the facts just don't add up to something I think is believable. I don't believe that when a guy is off the plane and just acting a little nuts that he was a serious danger of being a terrorist. I would guarantee that a real terrorist would not behave that way. A real terrorist would be as cool and normal looking as you can get.
Mark, you have to think about what you said. If someone is shouting they have a bomb and the police DONT take them seriously and they infact do what do you think the repercussions would be ? It would be drastic. The police have NO choice but to believe him. If this guy is stupid/insane enough to be shouting "I have a bomb" anywhere near a plane and then have the audacity to reach into their bag they must expect to be shot. The marshalls have a job to do and that is to protect the people. They absolutely did the right thing.
Posted by: Barry Morris at December 7, 2005 07:00 PMDo you REALLY think that a REAL terrorist is going to yell, "I have a bomb?" Think about it. A real terrorist isn't going to give anyone any warning.
Mark, I know what you are saying, but how can you expect the police to make that determination ? What if your wife and kids were right next to him ? If the guy says he has a bomb in an airport then he is just flat out stupid. That is a freaking federal offense. The police have no choice. People would rip the police a new one if he actually did have one and the police delayed in taking this guy out. I can see the police interview now.
Question to police - How come you delayed taking the guy out when he said he had a bomb ?
Police - "Well what kind of terrorist actually says they have a bomb ?" So we thought he was just joking and decided to do nothing" Do you see now ? These guys would be crucified. They had no choice.
Again if you are that stupid to do that in an airport full of people you deserve what you get. Let me ask you a question. If you go into an airport yelling you have a bomb and you have a backpack on and then you reach into with police all around you would you not expect to be shot ? I sure hope you would be shot if I was anywhere near you. Put yourself in their shoes.
Posted by: Barry Morris at December 8, 2005 06:33 AMYou seem to miss the point Marc is making. The man probably wasn't shouting that he had a bomb. He probably went nuts and the agent overreacted.
Marc also stated that he would like to question the passengers present during the incident.
I'm sure they have been instructed not to speak to the press.
Apparently one of the passengers who was standing near the man's wife did not hear 'Bomb' whatsoever...
He heard them telling the man to drop down but as he had luggage, fanny, and back pack was not able to do so and was trying to tell them as such. As he tried to remove one of the bags the passenger heard 5 shots ring out.
In fact he he was squatting down so as not to get shot and decided to use the phone to call someone to let them know what was happening when he was smacked and the phone was taken away from him.
Posted by: Steve at December 12, 2005 12:27 PMPhil..Read the 3rd sentence of marks first comment. He clearly states that even if they did have a bomb that no one would believe it. Which implies cops should not have believd him.
