I don't know about the rest of you but I'm liking Firefox less and less as it seem to be foing down hill. There's two bugs in particular that are really making me want to run something else.
First, there must me some kind of memory leak issue. I'm running XP and have a gig of ram. I keep a lot of windows open and everything runs fine for a while but after three days of work, and I do work it hard, it gets slower, and sllooowweerr, and sssssllllloooooowwwwweeeeerrr, until it finally chashes. Usually I have to shut it down when itstarts taking 15 seconds to close a window. Once I shut it all down I can start Firefox again and it's good for 3 more days.
Then - for some reason Firefox stoped responding to refresh tags that allow sites to redirect the page to another page. So it will sit that with a blank page and I have to view source and cut and paste the URL to go to the page that I was supposed to be redirected to.
I'm finding I'm having to use Explorer more and more just to be able to get work done. If Firefox wants to overtake explorer they are going to have to make their product better, not worse.
Indeed, Firefox has some serious problems but it's still better than Internet Exploder.
Anyway, the memory leak is _partially_ related to windows crappy memory management. My way of dealing with it is by reloading Firefox at least one every day or two and running two instances of the browser, perhaps Firefox and Flock or Firefox 1.5 and Bon Echo (Firefox 2 Alpha) side-by-side. This way neither one gets as much memory bloat and I can restart one without killing the other.
I consider the little problems to be worth it compared to the huge problems that I have experienced with IE.

by the way, no one is twisting your arm to use the latest version of firefox if you think it was better earlier by all means download the earlier version.
Posted by: Matt at July 5, 2006 02:31 PMFirefox got much worse, it does not allow to copy paste text, it is slow and crashes. No good, but sadly there is no good alternative either. A year ago I thought Mozilla will be the next best thing, but as it turns out it didn't live up to my expectations.

One word that should probably be two words, Greasemonkey...it makes Firefox worth any memory hogging in my mind. Linux users, try Swiftfox, it's a tweaked version of Firefox for specific Intel processors. Leaving windows running for 3 days is probably the main source of your troubles Marc. Love the site.

Mozilla is a FOR PROFIT company BTW, and ever if they weren't there is still reason to let me know how we feel about their products.
