Atheist Church Challenges Theists on Morality of Torture

The Church of Reality today has issued an edict challenging other religions to speak out against the Bush administration plan to legalize torture in the United States. The Church of Reality is a church based on believing in everything that is real and does not recognize the existence of any deities. In this edict the Church of Reality claims to have a superior moral position to that of God believing religions such as Christianity, Judaism, and Islam stating that it is the only religion that takes a strong position against torture as part of their official doctrine.

"We are Atheists", claims Marc Perkel, founder of the Church of Reality. "Yet we have developed a stronger and more sophisticated set of moral values than religions that are supposedly inspired by omnipotent deities. If these deities actually exist then why can't they keep up with the Atheists? We in the Church of Reality clearly understand that legalizing torture is clearly wrong and we are willing to take a strong position against it. The Theists however seem to be confused and unclear about if torture is right or wrong. We in the Church of Reality are challenging believers to pray about it to see if their God is as wise as we mortal Realists are."

Perkel admits that part of the reason his edict is so provocative is to inspire debate within the theistic world and get them inspired to take a position against Bush's plan to legalize secret torture camps in foreign countries who allow torture. "We in the Church of Reality are strongly against this and we are trying to get the attention of our fellow religions to get on board with this issue.", says Perkel. "We want them to share in the glory of doing good things for the human race."

In the edict the Church of Reality vows to remember the lessons learned from the concentration camps set up by the Nazis in Germany during World War II and sees Bush's torture camps as a dangerous first step in that direction. "This looks like the Holocaust to me", says Perkel who was raised Jewish. "Judaism never impressed me much. But I do remember seeing people with numbers tattooed on their forearms from being Hitler's prisoners. What amazes me is why the Jews aren't ahead of me on this."

Please feel free to contact me. I will debate any religious leader live on this issue. I ask everyone to spread this challenge to every place you can. Please post this everywhere. We can not afford for America to become the next Nazi Germany.
