I wish you'd rethink your opinion of Kerry. I am from Massachusetts and know a little about Kerry -- not that much, though. I will go along with "stiff," but "arrogant" doesn't fit IMHO. I hear that word used a lot to describe Kerry.

"Aloof" is the word I would use. Marc, have you thought about why you would call him arrogant? Hell, how much more arrogant can you get than Bush/Cheney?

BTW I really like your audioblog thing; I urge you to keep at it. I'm thinking of doing something similar myself, since my typing which sucks already is actually getting slower as the arthritis sets in.

OK. So far so good, I guess. I agree with the tactics behind Kerry's choice, and, um, I see Edwards as a prevailing running mate during the campaign, as well as an effective Vice President in the White House. The choice has, of course, been a compromise for me, but it comes among a very long string of compromises . . .

I close my eyes, and I imagine an America where I would've had the choice between the Dean/Clark ticket and Ralph Nader on the Green Party ticket. An America where "liberal" isn't a curse word, and where people like John McCain can represent their genuinely conservative values with dignity, instead of being reduced to partisan lapdogs for the corrupt lowest-common-denominator village idiot. An America that isn't naive and ignorant enough to let that village idiot lead it to war against the better angels of our nature; an America for people of any system of beliefs, with the government not propagandizing in what deity we trust; an America that never starts a war but always finishes it. An America that at very least can compete with other industrialized nations of the world in terms of social, environmental, and humanistic values. The America that was created in my mind when I was a child in a family of refugees looking for a better, fairer life.

Now a US citizen, I realize that this ideal is not real, that human ignorance, cowardice, and greed have thus far prevented it from being. The potential of human society -- at its core, without all the brainwashing and whitewash -- seems to be in the crapper, and it's hard to find any evidence that this shining epitome of freedom and human dignity, "life, liberty, pursuit of happiness" and all ... was ever anything more than a pipe dream.

And yet, it is a dream that I find very difficult to let go of, not because it is real but because it is good. In absence of ability to take meaningful action, it's our dreams that define who we are. Even if they can only be manifested in baby steps. To write, to speak, to evolve our ideas. Even if, in the mean time, all I can do is vote for the lesser of two evils.

Isn't Edwards a trial lawyer?

I read today that the Bush side is trying to use that to their advantage... that 'if Kerry gets voted in, then we'll see more lawsuits that bankrupt companies and throw people out of work'.

Remember these are the same people who said their were weapons of mass destruction. He is a trial lawer, he fights for the people agaisnt big business, it doesnt mean that trial lawers will destroy our nation.

It could if the Bush Team has made it to where the nation now rests on the shoulders of big business.
