It amazes my why anyone is sticking with the Catholic religion. What is with this cult? It appears that the Catholic Church's idea of "reform" is to overturn the laws that make them responsible for priests fucking children.
So - if you are Catholic - how can you justify giving money to an organization that opposes church responsibility for priests fucking children? The church stood by for decades knowing what was going on - covering up what was going on - and not that they are being held accountable they continue to side with child molesters.
You might ask, "Why should the whole church be held responsible for what a few preists did?" The answer is - it wasn't just a few priests - and - the church knew about it and allowed it. The church took an active part in moving these priests around to cover it up. The didn't even kick them out. The moved them to a different community where they found new fresh young boys to fuck.
So if the church didn't know about it - that would be somewhat different. But in this case the church was an active participant. So if the church has to suffer for it - that's a good thing. It sends a message to other churches that you can fuck children.
I don't think the penalty is harsh enough because the Catholics still don't get the message. The are still fucking boys - and they are still transfering and promoting the criminals who are fucking children. Cardinal Bernard Law was reciently promoted to the Vatican after being run out of town in Boston for his role in covering up for priests who were fucking children. This appointment shows clearly that the Church doesn't take the matter seriously.
If you give money to the Catholic Church - you are supporting priests fucking children.
Bishops Support Move to Overturn Law

(KCBS)--The priest sexual abuse scandal is moving forward on two legal fronts as cases of alleged clergy abuse wend through California courts.
Some Catholic bishops are supporting a request in federal court to overturn a law that allows decades old allegations to proceed.
KCBS reporter George Harris says the so-called Burton Law, named for its sponsor Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, drops the statute of limitations on claims of sexual abuse.
But California Catholic bishops call the law "unconstitutional."
"All of the bishops in the twelve diocese in California approved taking this position," said Maury Healy a spokesman for the San Francisco Archdiocese. He says the Burton Law unfairly targets the Catholic Church.
"In January 2003, the bishops issued a statement which warned against the effects of this law," Healy said.
He says by supporting a challenge of the Burton Law in federal court, bishops are not trying to avoid paying the enormous judgments that have been levied in lawsuits brought by alleged victims. "Portland has paid off 53-million-dollars alone."
The Southern California U.S. District Court is hearing the appeal of the Burton Law.
Posted by marc at July 18, 2004 06:45 AM | TrackBack"Religion is poison", as the proverb goes. But I'm not sure if all of the human race can survive without it just yet. Sometimes it seems like people need to be conditioned from birth to be a certain way, because no one likes the idea of what human beings are in their natural state, without all the masks. No one believes that restraint and compassion are possible without some spooky thousand-year-old mythology to hold it in place. Sad, isn't it?
Posted by: Alex Libman at July 18, 2004 05:37 PMI think sometimes the world would be a better place if some were not so religious, instead of planning on the hereafter, and forgiveness of sins almost as quick as your done doing them, or some elaborate prize your supposed to get after this... and looked at this as being a one shot deal and all you really have is this moment, if more internalized maybe the now would be better more precious, more thoughtfull...course organized religions have always had some agenda, misdeeds and atrocities..maybe that is just human nature hiding behind the skirts of some almighty who they say condones it approves of it or is willing to ignore it as long as it feeds into a particular agenda at the time. Rome is rich enough to cover this and make amends financially, and perhaps reform the celebacy bit..I dont know its just a few ideas

I think you might need a slight correction here...
you have a paragraph that currently reads:
"So if the church didn't know about it - that would be somewhat different. But in this case the church was an active participant. So if the church has to suffer for it - that's a good thing. It sends a message to other churches that you can fuck children."
shouldn't that last sentence be : "It sends a message to other churches that you *** can't *** fuck children."

Posted by: (: Tom :) at July 19, 2004 07:53 AMBack from vacation! Why is anyone still Catholic? My opinion is that people who are 'religous' need a crutch of some sorts. They need someone or something to tell them how to live their lives, that they better be good or they will burn in hell. There are also those that use religion as 'convenience', as a tool to be able to judge others and feel superior. Doesn't the bible say not too judge? Religion allows them to be as bad as they want when ever they want. After all, all they would need is forgiveness, or be 'born-again' and all would be swell. Sickening thought if you ask me. My people were and are still considred savages for our beliefs, yet Christians believe in something that they too cannot prove? Walking on water? Life after dead? Water to wine? Why, because it's written in a book? Did you know that Jesus's deity type status was a vote on a business decision by the byzantine empire? that the bible was written 400 years after jesus lived? ever heard of the game telephone, when you say one thing and by the time you get the last person it comes out different? is the bible like that? oh no, christians don't make mistakes. they just fuck boys...
Posted by: charlie chingas at July 20, 2004 10:24 AMPeople who need crutches don't deserve to live. It's because of these people that the church can get away with something as sickening as child molestation. The world would be a better place if all the stupid people could be pushed of a cliff. Let's see if their God saves them then.

Posted by: just a person at May 4, 2006 03:53 PMI agree entirely, and its not just the priest pedophilia problem. the catholic churched has been blemished for years, they're more fucked up than most terrorist organizations. I dont see how anybody can stand by them especially liek ypou said after the priest fucking children incident, only because that was much more public than the other problems.
Posted by: Mattaeus at August 9, 2006 11:18 AMDon't forget that Catholic schools -up to and including universities- will fuck you over if there's a dollar in it for them. Ah, well. As the priests keep saying, "Despair is a sin". Translated, that means keep smiling while this megacult keeps abusing its authority and pounding you up the ass.
